
Today, there are around 12 351 nuclear weapons in the world. Most of them are in the nuclear-armed states France, India, Israel, China, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. In addition, around 100 American nuclear weapons are placed in Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey and Germany through NATO. Nuclear weapons are also onboard ships and submarines patrolling international waters.
The United States and Russia together have approximately 87 percent of the world’s nuclear weapons and 83 percent of the warheads that are ready to be used by the military.
